If you search for the bodybuilders, wrestlers and fighters that have died young, you will be surprised to notice that the list is pretty long.
While a small percentage of these sportsmen have died due to natural causes, steroid use is held responsible for the majority of ones.
But in spite of the list growing with the passage of time, it is sad to notice that others are seeking no lesson from the unfortunate ones.
For example, Canelo Alvarez, the worldwide famous boxer who had recently joined the category of sportsmen tested positive for steroids.
- Born: July 18, 1990 (age 27 years), Guadalajara, Mexico
- Height: 1.75 m
- Weight: 74 kg
Much to our knowledge, the use of anabolic steroids is considered a crime, and any sportsman or individual proven guilty is subjected to retribution.
As per the reports, the tough and burly Alvarez has been found to be on clenbuterol that is an anabolic steroid in nature.
He was later suspended by Nevada Athletic Commission for a period of six months.
Upon investigation, the boxer forwarded his justification for the failing tests.
According to him, the consumption of contaminated meat has lead to such results and he not consumed anything illegal inside or outside the ring.
Clenbuterol, as said, is an anabolic steroid that is commonly used for the performance enhancing purposes.
The drug was initially introduced as a treatment for respiratory problems in animals.
If we further investigate the substance clenbuterol, we will get to know that it has the ability to serve as a bronchodilator as well as a decongestant.
In essence, bronchodilator can expand the vessel through which oxygen is supplied (that is a favorable condition for the enhancement of oxygen in blood).
And on the other hand, decongestant is essential for blood thinning (which again, is beneficial for the control in blood pressure).
So what makes Clenbuterol a potential drug for the sportsmen?
Owing to this, sportsmen witness a variety of changes like more physical power, excitability, fat reduction and many other effects that favor their professional goals on a whole.
But in spite of all the convincing things associated with Clenbuterol or any other anabolic steroid, you cannot exempt yourself from the danger it brings with itself.
Undeniably, the complications of steroids are not veiled and hence, the consumption of anything that falls under the category of illegal, is a clear-cut offence.
Getting back onto Canelo Alvarez, the 27 years old who has won around 50 fights has been suspended after failing two drug tests.
While the initial punishment was for a year, the jury reduced the period to 6 months owing to Canelo’s positive behavior.
Even though, the ban is brief, his spirits are high.
Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin’s cold war is real – “We were all disappointed by Canelo,” Golovkin said. “It was not my decision to disqualify him.” LA Times
The brilliant counterpuncher is all prepared to make his comeback in September to participate in the biggest sport event of Mexico- the Mexican Independence day weekend.
Unquestionably, he has always fought at the top level and will continue to do so, as of now- we wish him good luck!
